Hi! My name is Kelly Birg. I am 29 years old and have been studying art since I was 13. I was enrolled in drawing and painting classes during all four years of high school. This is where I was able to discover my “edgy and bstract” style of painting and drawing. Aside from abstract art, however, I still enjoyed challenging myself in executing concrete drawings, and paintings.
After high school, I enrollled in the school of Art at Western Michigan University. Following my 4th year in college, I decided to study a semester abroad of drawing and painting in London, England. Being exposed to a whole other world and culture led me to explore the world of digital photography. A lot of my inspriation comes from capturing a moment through a lens and reproducing it through drawings, painting and mixed the different media.
I graduated from WMU with a B.F.A. in graphic design in 2005. Since then, I have continued to explore and experiment in other areas in fine art and digital art, including web design and animation.
My inspiration comes from experimenting with the different art forms both individually, and as a combination. Being exposed to new environments, especially when I’m out hiking, taking pictures, observing my surroundings, driving, exploring the city and traveling outside of Arizona gives me something new to look at, thus, it gets the creative juices flowing. Dark lines, drip marks, circles, swirls, rough textures, scotch tape and masking tape are common elements found in my drawings and paintings. Rays of light, portraits, strong shadows, rain drops, nature, urban decay, vehicles in motion at night, long hallways, vibrant colors, linear architecture and fences are prevalent in my photographs.
